Chaplain (Capt.) Emil Kapaun, Oct. 7, 1950 |
We are all somewhere, somehow connected to a soldier. This connection, male and female, may be within our ancestry, experienced first hand, or via a friend, friend of a friend, or family member. It is a commitment, to country, to self. It brings honor, instills pride, separates families across continents and oceans. Lives are changed forever. Within that period of separation resides visions of coming home. Some make it. Some don't. Those who don't leave families behind. Those that do are never the same...
Next time you see a soldier, he may have just come home! But, unlike the song, he is one who made it back.
